8-Days From Casablanca To Merzouga Sahara

Embark on a 7-day journey from Casablanca to discover Morocco’s imperial cities and the Sahara Desert. Start by exploring Casablanca’s Hassan II Mosque and Corniche. Travel along the coast to Rabat, visiting the Hassan Tower and Mausoleum of Mohamed V. Continue to the blue city of Chefchaouen in the Rif Mountains for the night. On Day 3, explore the Roman ruins of Volubilis and Meknes before reaching Fes. Spend a full day with a guided tour of Fes, visiting its medieval Medina, Royal Palace gate, and tanneries. Journey to Ifrane, known as the “Switzerland of Morocco,” and then head to the Sahara Desert, experiencing a camel ride and a night under the stars in Merzouga. Visit Rissani, Erfoud, and the Todra Gorges before arriving in the scenic Dades Valley. On the final day, pass through the Rose Valley, Skoura Palm Groves, and Ouarzazate. Embark on our one-week journey in Morocco with a 7-day itinerary starting from Casablanca. We’ll pick you up early from the airport or your accommodation. Casablanca, the economic center and largest city in Morocco, awaits. Our first stop will be the Hassan II Mosque, the country’s largest mosque, situated on the city’s west coast overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Afterward, we’ll explore more of the city, including a visit to the stunning Corniche of Casablanca. Spend the night in a hotel, resting after a day of exploration in this vibrant city by the sea.
After breakfast, our journey will take us along the coastline to Rabat, one of Morocco’s imperial cities. You’ll explore the city highlights, including the Hassan Tower, the Mausoleum of Mohamed V, and the Kasbah of the Oudayas. In the afternoon, we’ll head north through Ouazzane to reach the blue city of Chefchaouen. Nestled in the Rif Mountains, Chefchaouen is renowned for its blue-painted buildings and charming alleyways. Finally, spend the night in a hotel or riad, resting after a day of discovery in these captivating cities.
After breakfast, our journey continues to the Roman Ruins of Volubilis, a well-preserved UNESCO World Heritage site adorned with beautiful mosaics, ancient pillars, and archways. Following our exploration of the ruins, we’ll head to Meknes, known as the Ismaili capital and an imperial city. Here, we’ll visit Bab Al-Mansour, Sahrij Souani, the Royal Stables, the Granary, and the Moulay Ismail Mausoleum. Finally, we’ll arrive in Fes, where you’ll spend the night in a characteristic hotel, immersing yourself in the local ambiance of this historic city.
Explore Fes with a guided tour, dedicating the day to discovering its highlights with a local guide. Fes is an imperial city and the cultural and religious center of Morocco. We’ll start by visiting the Royal Palace gate, then delve into the well-preserved medieval Medina, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Begin at the blue gate, Bab Boujloud, and navigate the labyrinth of alleyways and streets. Inside the Medina, we’ll see the Madrasa Bouanania, the Najjarine fountain, and the tanneries. We’ll end our visit at the Al-Qarawiyyin mosque and university, the oldest university in the world. Afterward, we’ll leave the Medina to explore the Jewish quarter, known as the “Mellah,” and then drive to an ancient fortress for a panoramic view of Fes. Return to your Riad after the tour.
Our week-long journey through Morocco begins after breakfast, heading towards Ifrane via Imouzzar to visit this city known for its cooler climate, snow, and alpine architecture, earning it the nickname “Switzerland of Morocco.” Next, we’ll drive to Cedars, home to Barbary macaques, and then continue to Midelt for lunch. From there, we’ll head towards the desert of Merzouga via the Tizi-N-Talghamt pass, with scenic stops along the Ziz Valley. In the afternoon, we’ll arrive at the Sahara desert in Merzouga, where you’ll experience a camel ride through the sandy dunes to reach the campsite. After arriving at the bivouac, freshen up with a cool shower. Enjoy dinner accompanied by Berber drum music and dancing around the campfire under the vast open sky filled with stars.
To begin the day, wake up early to witness a stunning desert sunrise. Take some free time for breakfast before returning on camels to Merzouga, where the driver will be waiting. Leaving the desert behind, our next stop is the town of Rissani, the ancient capital of Morocco and still a bustling trading center with a lively souk three days a week. After exploring the souk in Rissani, we’ll head to Erfoud to visit a workshop featuring fossilized marble. Continuing our journey, we’ll drive through the palm groves of Touroug and Tinejdad to reach the Todra Gorges. The Todra River has carved out a majestic canyon with high red cliff sides, ideal for rock climbers. Take time to wander through the gorges and admire the stunning landscape before enjoying lunch at a local restaurant. Next, we’ll continue to the Dades Valley, passing through Boumalne Dades. Along the way, we’ll make stops at the Monkey Fingers rock formation and an overlook with views of the Dades Valley. Finally, dinner and overnight accommodation will be provided at a hotel.
During the day, we continue our trip to Kalaa Magouna to visit the Rose Valley, where an annual rose festival is held in May. Locals offer a variety of rose products, from perfumes and rose water to oils and cosmetics. Next, we drive through the palm groves of Skoura to reach Ouarzazate, where we visit the studios where famous movies were shot. Afterwards, we depart to visit the famous Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, a fortified village recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site. This Kasbah has appeared in numerous movies including Gladiator, Alexander, The Mummy, and TV series like Game of Thrones. Then, we drive to Marrakech through the Tizi-N-Tichka pass and the High Atlas Mountains. Upon arrival in Marrakech, we will drop you off at your Riad or hotel, marking the end of our 7-day itinerary starting from Marrakech.
