We will leave Fez behind and head towards Merzouga, crossing the Middle Atlas and its cedar forests. This mountain range extends 350 kilometers from the southwest to the northwest of Morocco. On the way, we will pass through towns such as Ifrane, known as the “Moroccan Switzerland” for the architecture of its houses and for being one of the most exclusive ski destinations in the country, and Azrou, one of the most famous Berber cities in Morocco. Also on our 2-Day desert tour from Fes to Marrakech, we will cross the Ziz Valley and the Ziz Gorges and pass through towns like Midelt or Erfoud. From Erfoud, we will take a desert road until we reach Merzouga. At dusk, we will take some camels to reach the camp, where after a traditional dinner we will spend the night in the middle of the dunes.
As soon as you wake up you can enjoy the incredible image of the sunrise over the dunes of Merzouga. After this natural spectacle, you will go by camel to a hotel where you can wash and enjoy a breakfast that will give you the strength to continue the adventure. Returning to the road, you will pass through the Palmeral of Tafilalet and the town of Rissani (the hometown of the Moroccan royal family) until you reach the town of Alnif.
After breakfast, we’ll depart with a 4X4 vehicle to explore the dunes, visiting nomadic Berber families along the way for tea and conversation. We’ll also visit the fossil area to learn about the desert’s natural resources and experience a traditional Gnaoua music demonstration by the Bambaras group of Khamlia. In the afternoon, we’ll embark on a camel excursion to reach the camp nestled at the base of the dunes, enjoying the unforgettable sunset. This natural spectacle will leave a lasting impression. Enjoy a traditional Berber dinner at the camp, set to the rhythmic beats of drums under the moon and stars, surrounded by dunes and a campfire.
After breakfast, we’ll head towards Roses Valley, one of the most beautiful valleys in southeast Morocco. This valley comes to life each April and May when local women pick roses for nearby factories in Kalaat, boosting the area’s economy. Our journey continues to Skoura, where we can visit the Amridil Kasbah and drive through the palm grove. We’ll then reach Ouarzazate, known as the “Hollywood of Africa”. Here, we can visit the Cinema Museum, snap a beautiful picture of Taourirt Kasbah, and continue on to Ait Ben Haddou. Spend the night at a hotel or riad, resting after a day of exploration in this captivating region.
After breakfast, we’ll begin our journey by visiting the Ksar of Ait Ben Haddou with a local guide. This fortress town, built in adobe, has been featured in numerous films and is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Driving back to Marrakech via the Ounila Valley, we’ll have the opportunity to visit the Talouet Kasbah, once belonging to the Pasha of Marrakech and renowned for its beauty. Finally, we’ll drive back to Marrakech and drop you off at your riad or hotel, concluding our day of exploration.
Guide will meet us at the lobby of our Riad and take us on a complete tour of the famous Medina, including the historic building and world noted markets.
